Blog #11 Would you grab Sushi with 3 strangers?

Around a month or so ago I wrote about a dinner I attended with 6 random strangers as a part of a new social app, I have now tried it again.

For those who do not know I previously wrote about my experience with this app called Time Left. The app is designed to match up strangers for dinners and spark friendships. I tried the app the other month and enjoyed eating Italian and meeting new people. I have meant to go on another since I still had 3 remaining dinners on my app. Sickness, busy schedules, financial woes, and general laziness kept me from doing my next dinner. Despite lacking a bit of motivation at the beginning of the week I brought myself to a dinner on Wednesday night and was pleasantly surprised.

My dinner on Wednesday night took place at a sushi restaurant in Vic Park called Kuza. I was excited to eat some sushi which being honest was a huge reason I ended up going out that night. I was the first to arrive and after a short while, all the guests who had chosen to come out had arrived. Last time we were a group of 7, me and 6 strangers. This time it was a much smaller group of 4, me and 3 strangers. I have to say though I do not mind at all, the smaller group was a nice shakeup. The smaller group was great and meant I was able to get a better idea of each person at the table than last time.

My group was made up of Stephen, Leah, and Jay and I had a fantastic time getting to know them all. As I have begun making my way into my final semester I have seen a huge drop in motivation and unfortunately the beginning of this week I was at my worst with it. Despite feeling really quite low I pushed myself to go out this week and I was so glad. The conversation I had with those 3 interesting strangers was exactly what I needed to get my spark back this week. Just like last time the app provided questions to help us get to know each other better but also to spark interesting conversations. Fortunately for me, it was not all the same questions either.

The food was incredible, I had salmon sushi rolls but we all shared our plates of Sushi Rolls as the restaurant recommended. I had some sashimi, and egg rolls too they were all delicious. The restaurant was not the cheapest place in the world but the food was really filling. Thankfully the restaurant also had a great drinks menu.

This is now the second time I have done one of these and both times I have been amazed at how easily you can connect with a stranger and how much you may have in common. Throughout the night there were multiple points where someone said something that I really profoundly connected or related to. There were just as many times when I heard that being said to me. It really is amazing how all it takes is an introduction. How many of your closest and most impactful friendships, connections and relationships might not have even happened if it were not for an introduction.

I’m really grateful I pushed myself to go to the dinner and I’m really grateful for the outcome. I will definitely be doing one of these again, they are great fun. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend.
