Blog #4 Success On My Terms

I'm writing this from my car. I’m parked up on the river down from my house listening to music. There is a power outage on my street and at least in my car I can charge my phone, write, and stay warm.

I've struggled to think of what to write this week. I've been quite busy with work and I got a new tattoo today - look at how cool that is !! - I was sat in my car focused on how annoying blackouts can be and negatively ruminating on how I still didn't know what to write about this week when I remembered something I read.

Success is subjective and it should be measured based off if we lived the day in a way in which was true to us. Not in these words exactly and I can't remember in which book but it's so true.

I spent the last 8 days up to Tuesday working, I went grocery shopping yesterday and spent time with the family. I got a new tattoo today. That sounds like a really successful week to me. Unfortunately for me and I'm sure most others a week like that can easily become unsuccessful. If you didn't cure cancer, plan your next holiday, and get promoted then it is instantly a bad week.

The mind loves to put a negative spin on everything. This trait is no longer that useful so it's important to come up with ways to counteract this negativity. I've found the two best ways are gratitude and actively setting the conditions for success.

Gratitude sounds like a cop out but honestly it never fails to leave me feeling somewhat better off. Regardless of the circumstance you can be grateful things didn't go worse or for what the scenario taught you.

Choosing the conditions of your success is a fantastic trick that is hugely effective In changing how I feel. All I really do is evaluate the day and ask was I true to my myself, my values, and the goals I've set for myself?

Even writing this blog post now I feel better. Focusing on the achievable goals I've set for myself and branding that a success helps to simply things for me. When I'm feeling low energy or low vibe all I really have to do is come back to the activities that I've deemed as successful.

For me that is this blog and listening to music for you it might be going to the gym it might be watching Netflix. As long as your honouring what you've set for yourself.

I get the most comfort from knowing that applying these concepts and living by little achievable goals that you set as your success metrics whether your working out or having me time.

I've just checked online and it looks like the black out is over. Thanks for joining me for this reflection into success, goals, and gratitude. I'm heading home.
