Blog #26 - My Spotify Wrapped Aged Like Milk

One week ago I shared my 2024 Spotify wrapped, Jay Z was my top artist, I knew the optics were sketchy at best but now it’s shocking. For those who don’t know a lawsuit has come out in the past week accusing Sean “Jay Z" Carter & Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl back in 2000.

Since the Diddy story broke back in September I knew Jay Z was not far behind. These two were far too close for there to be nothing incriminating going on with him. Whilst I knew Jay Z was likely a shitty person I assumed it was nothing more than most shitty people in his position. When I read the accusations though I was shocked and disgusted, I probably shouldn’t have been so shocked but I think I was in a little bit of denial given how much Jay Z I was listening to.

Whilst nothing about this story is funny I do find the personal timing of my blog to be shockingly hilarious. What luck that the following day this awful story breaks. I definitely feel a little embarrassed but not enough to not write about it. I find it ironic that I’m in this situation considering how much I used to shit on Michael Jackson fans for his sketchy past.

I and everyone else ought to expect more instances like this. As we begin to hold celebrities to higher standards and it becomes easier for people to speak out against abuse or violence like this there will be more and more people idolised by many who will be seen in a different light. Jay Z the former crack dealer is probably not the most shocking celebrity to be revealed as a monster but there will be plenty of shocking revelations as time goes by.

What I am very curious about as the story develops is how all of this will affect the untouchable wife of Jay Z… Beyonce. She occupies such a revered position in popular culture that it will be really interesting to see what else is revealed and how the perception of her changes. Beyonce may not have been up to stuff as heinous as her husband but I’m sure she at the very least knows about a lot of shady shit.

I probably won’t be blasting Jay Z so much at least for now, it would feel poor in taste. I will be watching closely though, to me this downfall of a lot of old well well-established celebrities and rising political tensions are all connected. A lot of wealthy powerful people have been up to some awful stuff and are finally (Hopefully) getting the justice they deserve.
